Stopping Grassy Weeds Before They Start

Buried deep in your lawn, under the ground where you can’t see, are thousands of tiny seeds - seeds for plants like crabgrass, goosegrass, orchardgrass and foxtail. The seeds for all of these grassy weeds can ruin your lawn and are already in the ground ready to come to life this spring.

These under ground seeds may lie dormant for years. Then, when conditions are right, the seeds germinate and suddenly you’ve got grassy weeds in your lawn.

The time to stop this unwanted invasion of weeds is before it starts. And the best way to do this is with pre-emergent control products. These pre-emergence control products cover the soil with a chemical barrier that prevents plant growth after weed seed germination. So grassy weeds never even have a chance to poke their heads above ground and spoil your beautiful lawn.

New lawns are especially susceptible because the soil has been disturbed, the turf is not as dense and buried seeds are exposed to the light and moisture they need in order to grow. Even new lawns created by laying down sod are vulnerable and should also be treated with pre-emergent control products.

The time to apply pre-emergent control products is in the early to late spring, before weeds can get started. Your Signature Lawn Services expert knows the best time to begin applying pre-emergent control products in Fort Wayne and surrounding areas.
